I can hardly believe it has been one year. Seeing the photos of him on this site are bringing back strong memories. H is sorely missed and will never be forgotten for the great man he was. I am thinking of you during this time of remembrance and know I love you all!! Sheryl Hill

Dear Louisa: I was profoundly shocked and sad to read about John's death . He was one of the kindest and most able men I knew in Falls Church. In speaking to him once by phone he told me how much he enjoyed life in Camden. I also remember that my late wife Sue (1995) and I once decided to visit, before you went there, and we were charmed by it. We climbed that very lovely hill and just sat there looking out at the ocean below. Although I have missed both of you, I understand why you picked Camden. In Falls C hurch, John was one of the best members of the city council and I respected his quiet but thoughtful judgement and demeanor on many crucial and controvertial issues. I have missed him all these years. but Im delighted to learn that he continued to give so much of himself to the variety of issues that arose in Camden. I also remember how hard you worked on your doctoral dissertation in sociology and wondered what you did with it. I believe it was in sociology, but I forgot the problem you attacked. I remember the pain of losing a mate of many years. Sue passed away in 1995, and its attendent memories. And I shall say no more. I hope your children will have the time to comfort you. I shall always remember John. Should you ever visit Falls Church again, I have a couple of empty rooms upstairs and you are welcome to use them. I cant climb them because of a couple of broken legs but I do use a walker for stability below and for getting into other peoples cars. With deep sorrow, lou.

We are deeply sorry to hear about John's passing. Words are not adequate enough to express the sadness we feel. I met John around 1990 through Bryan. I've always thought of him as a great father, brilliant man, and a stoic Irishman. Bryan, Michael and Louisa are very lucky to have such a man in their lives. John was one of a kind. We will miss John as he was not only a great man but very loving, with a twinkle in his eye as he loved to humor others, and the love of politic he loved to debate, we will all miss him very much! He and Louisa as extended family became a real part of our family. We came to love them and looked forward to their visits. I am sorry I never got to Maine. Kelly is very much like his grandfather and I even see the same twinkle in his eyes. Behind every good man is a good woman and that is Louisa. She is a great mother,grandmother and friend and stood by John like no other. We are thinking of all of you and love you here in Charleston,SC. Love, Sheryl Hill
